March 19-23 (3 docs)

posted by Helen Wynkoop   [ updated ]

We have been reading our Independent Reads since we finished TGG last week.  Now I am reviewing grammar in class with infrequent quizzes to check mastery. I am attaching a doc for the comma rules...assuming you understand sentence types. I had this review on the board all week.  Also, I am adding a list of subordinating conjunctions, so that you recognize them for a quiz.

We will keep reading and reviewing all week with the exception of Thurs when you will be registering for the SAT.  Counselors will assist you in completing this task.

A few students will be presenting on Weds this week. I am open for anyone to present next week. Just make sure that your powerpoint is in Google Classroom prior to class.  I will also attach a rubric for this tri-fold assignment.

We started the new vocab 7 and will stay with the 2 week cycle we normally have employed all year. We also began reading The Great Gatsby on Weds. We finished chapter 1, with Ms. Wynkoop reading most of it to us and commenting on it as we will later write a literary analysis of it.  There is a PPT with life of Fitzgerald and information related to symbolisn, etc. for the novel, but Ms. Wynkoop put notes on the board; she frequently comments on the reading as we go along, explaining allusions, imagery, characterization.  Please keep notes because you can use them on a quiz. We will finish Chapter 2 by Friday.  A quiz on Chapters 1 and 2 will most likely follow on Monday, Feb. 5.  She also took a homework grade for vocab, just for its completion.  Be prepared.

More to come...
