May 29- June 4

Tues- welcome back. Quick quiz on chapter 9 of PLaR.
Weds- Lab to work on the personal essay. Use Google Sites to see the Power Point again plus rubric for peer eval and final grade rubric are also there.
Thurs- short time for peer eval in class; papers MUST be submitted to turnitin.com. We will review chapter 11; 12 and 13 for Friday (previously announced.) Read 14-15 for MONDAY, June 4!
FRIDAY- ALL PAPERS due! I need to grade them quickly.  Also, I am holding to the English dept's policy of 20% off for each day late on this one. No sob stories, please.
HW: READ! chapters 14-15 are really short but full of information and suspense! New things going on fast now...AND remember when you came back in last week...readers were rewarded.:>)

Personal Narrative/College Essay

WARNING! the due dates on the "college essay" document are not correct.  These are the due dates:
1. Brainstornming (on paper) due to ME on class this Thurs, 5/24. You must have this to start on a laptop. Feel free to bring your own if you want to do so. 
2. On Thurs, 5/24, you should have accomplished quite a bit of the draft which I want to see for points on Friday.  
3. On Wednesday, 5/30, you are assigned to work in the media center.  You should print your paper if you are finished with it. Final copy is due either on Thurs (5/31) or on Friday (6/1). If you are going to be out on Friday, it MUST be turned in on Thurs, or it will be 20% off for late points. You can do this! It is all about YOU!

Review Chapter 2 for today; this was Friday's homework.
Monday- Listen to chapter 3 in class; and read chapter 4 for homework.
Tues- Discuss 4 and read 5&6  for Thurs.
Wed- READ You will have a "quiz" to put in your notebooks, too, on 1-5. Stay up with the class.
Thurs- Discuss 5-6 (and movie on Friday or Monday if reading is moving ahead)HW read 7&8 by Monday, the 21st.This Monday is a college planning day, so read 9-10 for Tues.
Expect a quiz any time.:>)
Tues- we took the quiz on PLaR chapters 1-8. After, I introduced the college essay....see separate Google Site entry for this.
Weds- Movie and popcorn day.
Thurs- Work on laptops in class...I need to see brainstorming before you work on the paper.
Friday- short classes, so a little review on this day and makeups.
We will discuss all of 9 and 10 on Tues. 5/29. Discussion for the rest of book posted below:

Monday- reading day followed by a movie day.
Quiz- TKaM 19-23 quiz
Tues- reading to finish book; review
Weds- Review for test on Thurs
Thurs- TEST on TKaM. Turn in TKaM.
Friday- makeups for test. Hand out new books? This is taking up into our last unit! A great read, too!

Be prepared for a quiz any time on this novel, TKAM.
HW: Monday, read 15-16 
HW: Tuesday, read 17-18
HW: Weds, read 19 20 and we will have discussion. There will be a quiz and notebook checks this week.

Finish testing for the state, and start To Kill a Mockingbird.

Introductory PP below. Vocab for chapters 1-8 and I will put on more.  
See an example of a class's questions, or comments, or observations...This is a model of the kind of those I want to see in your notes on a daily reading basis.  It is essential that you do this so that you get a notebook grade.  I will use it for the homework assignment.  

For Wed- Chapters 1-3; 
For Thurs- 4-6 and see example below.  I also gave you a review of vocab.

We have been reading our Independent Reads since we finished TGG last week.  Now I am reviewing grammar in class with infrequent quizzes to check mastery. I am attaching a doc for the comma rules...assuming you understand sentence types. I had this review on the board all week.  Also, I am adding a list of subordinating conjunctions, so that you recognize them for a quiz.

We will keep reading and reviewing all week with the exception of Thurs when you will be registering for the SAT.  Counselors will assist you in completing this task.

A few students will be presenting on Weds this week. I am open for anyone to present next week. Just make sure that your powerpoint is in Google Classroom prior to class.  I will also attach a rubric for this tri-fold assignment.

Tues- Reading time for TGG- finish by Thurs; HW read chapter 8 by Weds
Weds- Quiz after review and read to finish book for Thurs.
Thurs- Review chapter 9 followed by quiz; go to media center for independent reading books.
Friday- I will go over the requirements for the literary analysis of TGG. Handout- rubric (don't lose it)

Feb 19-22

Monday- "CTRW" and video for TGG
Tues- Handed back 4-6 reviews and gave out 7-9 for TGG; It was a reading day! Quote quiz on Chapter 7 on Weds-quiz on chapter 7 and final review for vocab for quiz on THURS!
We will pick it up after break. No new vocab for a week or two.
Gatsby paper is coming up. Be thinking of themes!
