Monday- checked out copies of Beowulf.  Saw a lecture on YouTube on the introduction to Beowulf. Took a few notes on the genre of Beowulf.
Tuesday- read and take notes on the intro to Beowulf, pages ix-xxiii. There will be a quiz on Thurs.
Wednesday- Start Beowulf in class.  We will read together, initially, with students reviewing what we read each night. We got through to page 21, line 285. Terms listed in document below.  Get notes from someone in class.
Thurs- QUIZ on Intro in Beowulf. After the quiz we will go to media center to choose a non-fiction piece for Independent Reading.
Friday-More Beowulf in class...We advanced into Denmark today...traveling from pages 21-47 (ll. 688). We discussed perspectives of Beowulf as a warrior from the vantage points of the coast guard, the king's "hand," Wulfgar, and from the envious Unferth. We discussed the overlay of Christianity along side of the pagan culture and "fate."  Much of the text was not on Heaney's recording, so I read it to class.  We will start on page 47 on Monday.  Always be ready for a quiz.  Have a good weekend!
